THREE, TWO, ONE, FIRE! If you were asked to describe MONGREL in
four words, you couldn’t go wrong with this motto. The four guys from
Munich almost celebrate ass-kickin’hardcorepunk for many years now and
can’t seem to get tired enhancing their very own style all the time. It’s all
about angry, powerful and energetic in-your-face-music that’s making a
firm stand, far away from pseudo-happy suburban look-I-gotta-tattoowith-
my-mum’s-name-wannabe-punk. Knowing that uncountable things
go wrong in our world and that our wide-spread intolerance and inhumanity
start with closed eyes, a lack of mutual interest and the disability to
get to the bottom of things, MONGREL speed around like a 200-mphwake-
up-call that - once aroused by - makes it hard to get satisfied by
MTV-Funpunk. And by the way they prove that straight, hard music with
a serious political background doesn’t have to be inelegant or uncomplex:
Fast breaks are uniting with ambitious harmonies to a mighty and intoxicating
mixture that is posing a completely new challenge: Keeping still…
MONGREL, founded in 1998, are into punkrock for more than six years
now and obtained acceptance for the first time when releasing their debut
album “Sons of decreasing evolution” (Eisbär Records) in 2001 which was
distributed by Long Beach Records, CA. It was followed by enumerous
compilations like the “Eastpak’s Pro Punker Vol. 3” (featuring bands like
the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Goldfinger), Dakine’s “Last Name First”-
Surf-DVD and Wolverine Records “Chartbuster Vol. 5” (featuring NoFX and
Die Toten Hosen) just to name the most important ones. The latest release
is a split-vinyl with the californian band Code 4-15 on FOND OF LIFE Rec.
But besides all that MONGREL stays a live band, which they proved in
their about 150 shows in the last years, which they played as headliners
or together with bands like PENNYWISE, GOOD RIDDANCE, DOWN BY
LAW, THE DISTILLERS, THE LAWRENCE ARMS, PIPEDOWN, DE HEIDEROOSJES,
UNION 13, ARGIES, VENEREA, RED LIGHTS FLASH, THE BRIEFS,
NORMAHL and many more. They already toured countries like the US,
Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia on their own.
