In recent years, the "Y2K" trend has swept through Japan, reaching its peak and already beginning to burn out as a fleeting fashion statement. To us, it has often felt like a hollow, commercialized aesthetic rather than a reflection of the era's true spirit. For those of us who actually lived through the early 2000s rock scene, seeing that raw energy reduced to a disposable trend is disheartening.

Against this backdrop, we, Haiki, are finally making our first proactive, independent release in about eight years. Since our last album Noroshi (狼煙), we have returned to reclaim that authenticity—not as nostalgia, but as a modern evolution. We approached this track by asking ourselves: "If we could take the raw shock and heat we felt back then and channel it through our current skills and gear, what would we create?" It is a high-definition redefinition of the distorted textures and ensemble breathing that defined that era.

For this release, we enlisted mixing engineer Junta Hayashi, a cornerstone of the Japanese indie-emo scene known for his work with malegoat, falls, and The Firewood Project.

The primary target is the generation who was baptized by the fire of early 2000s punk and emo—our peers—and those who deeply love the bands featured in Japanese anime openings from that era, such as the pillows, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, and BEAT CRUSADERS. In other words, the target is someone exactly like ourselves. We've condensed that peak exhilaration into a 1-minute, 30-second blast designed to fit the fast-paced lifestyle of today. With heavily compressed drums, wide guitars rich in mid-range, and a powerful, centered vocal presence, the sound is a direct homage to the sonic landscapes we've always admired.

Structurally, this work is a fusion of two worlds: the uncompromising brevity of US short-tune punk bands like Joyce Manor and the dense, cathartic 90-second format of Japanese anime openings. By delivering an overwhelming amount of information in such a short window, it creates a high-speed experience that leaves no room for skipping, igniting a new signal fire from the smoke of our past.
